Imagine waking up every day in the driver’s seat of your car. You have a job. You clock in, do your work, and receive a paycheck. But the math of the housing market, cost of basic needs, and no support has completely broken you down. Every dollar earned and every ounce of hope is swallowed up by daily survival. This was Timmea’s story.
“I had been living in my car for years. I was a storm. Unapproachable and angry at life.”
Frustrated and bitter, Timmea was ready to get out of town. Her son, the only family that didn’t disown her, suggested Idaho Falls Rescue Mission (IFRM) in hopes that she would stay. “I’ll try it,” she said, “but I’m still planning to leave.”
When she decided to give IFRM a try, Timmea was immediately met with a community that brought her in and began walking with her through the hardships she was facing. She was set up with a case manager, bible studies, and given resources to help her right where she was at. But shortly after arriving, she discovered her driver’s license had expired. When staff helped her apply for a birth certificate to begin the renewal process, they uncovered a serious discrepancy: her legal name on the birth certificate did not match any of her other documents, including Social Security records. What should have been a simple administrative task turned into months of complex paperwork, bureaucratic hurdles.
“It just felt like we would get over a hurdle to be met with quicksand over and over again.”
Without the resources, guidance, and persistent support obstacles like these can keep people trapped in cycles of hardship for years—unable to secure proper identification, employment, housing, or even basic services. But because of faithful partners like you, Timmea had the help she needed every step of the way.
“ Not having proper ID was another reason I felt like I didn’t belong. But it was like God just kept showing me the way through IFRM staff.”
As Timmea continued attending Bible studies and building relationships with staff, volunteers, and other women in the program, she began reading Scripture and asking deeper questions about her identity and purpose. Through those conversations, she realized she had spent much of her life feeling lost and disconnected, unsure of who she truly was. On June 20, 2026, after a volunteer asked if she had accepted Christ, Timmea chose to place her faith in Jesus and was born again. Today, she attends church and weekly Bible studies. Now rooted in her newfound joy in Christ, she no longer feels the need to escape. Instead, she has found where she belongs. And is now pursuing a full legal name change.
“The night I prayed with Paula and asked Jesus to be my Lord and Savior, I feared waking up angry like all the other days. But the next day I woke up with peace and joy in my heart for the first time in years. And now feel like I finally belong somewhere.”
