The sprouting of a NEW Addiction Recovery Program
For an individual wrestling with addiction, time is a battleground. Every second carries the weight of a deep spiritual struggle. At the Idaho Falls Rescue Mission (IFRM), we know that true healing requires more than a safe place to sleep—it demands a holistic restoration of body, mind, and spirit. Destructive routines of the past need to be replaced with the life-giving, intentional purpose that God has for every one of our guests. We are excited to share that we’re currently in the process of revamping our Addiction Recovery Program, transforming how come alongside those seeking a way out of darkness.
“This evolution is driven by a desire to fix what we haven’t done so well in the past,” says Executive Director Tyler Perkins. “We don’t just want to hand someone a certificate at the end of a program without the real, lasting change to back it up.” When our guests leave the mission, we want them leaving transformed with a clear pathway forward with confidence, dignity, and the internal fortitude built through a community rooted in the love and truth of Jesus Christ.
To achieve this, IFRM is introducing a new circular-modular curriculum. This month-to-month cycle allows new guests to step into the program immediately when they are ready, rather than waiting for a new semester to begin.
The new program will be education-centric: we will create and offer classes, educational workshops, and more life-skills and application opportunities that help facilitate long-lasting growth and change in the lives of our participants and guests. As dedicated as we are to helping facilitate change, we recognize that real life-transformation belongs to the Lord. “Recovery is incredibly difficult. We cannot force anyone to change—the individual must want it.” Tyler explains. “Our role at the Mission is like an agricultural calling. We are here to prepare the soil, till, fertilize, plant, and water. We cannot force the growth, but we can provide the right environment and resources rooted in Truth, where God can bring the increase.”
To bring this rigorous new recovery revamp to life, IFRM Board President Erik Strom will officially step into the role of Director of Programs this month! Erik brings a dedicated love of the Lord and an incredible 37-year background in education to the Mission. With Erik and our executive team leading the charge, we are faithfully targeting an early-to-mid 2027 launch.
Our vision remains exactly what it has been since day one: a Southeast Idaho where no one has to face hunger, homelessness, or hopelessness and every person who walks through our doors has a clear pathway to lasting restoration of body, mind, and spirit.
Because we refuse to let anyone walk this path alone, we are committed to offering this entire program and all the education and classes at no cost to its participants.
This launch is entirely possible early 2027, but it depends on the body of Christ stepping up to support it. Let’s be an Idaho Falls community marked by how we fiercely love and care for one another! If you have a skill or something to share, call today!
“Behold, I am doing a good thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
Isaiah 43:19
